The Tarrant Board of Education is a five-member Board, appointed by the Tarrant City Council. Each member serves the school system and community for a five-year term and may be reappointed by the City Council.
Board meetings are usually held at 6:00 pm on the last Tuesday of the month. Board meetings are open to the public. Meetings are held in the Board Room at the Central Office (1318 Alabama Street,Tarrant, Alabama )or at one of the school locations. The Board conducts public hearings on specific topics from time to time. These hearings provide additional opportunities for public comments on such items as the budget. Notices about public hearings are published on the system website.
In accordance with Alabama Sunshine Law, the Board may meet privately in executive session to discuss good name and character or certain legal matters that are in compliance with Alabama law.

Role of the School Board
With children always their ultimate focus, school Board members act officially only at the Board table, working with other Board members to accomplish the following:
Create a shared vision
Set student performance standards
Oversee development of assessment programs based on those standards
Account for student achievement results
Adopt the annual budget, aligning district resources to improve achievement
Create a healthy environment for work and learning
Build strategic partnerships
Sustain the disctrict's progress through continuous improvement
Adopt and maintain current policies in written format
Hire and evaluate the superintendent
Maintain strong ethical standards
The Board is a committee of community representatives that exist to make sure the superintendent has what is needed to efficiently run schools in support of the children and in synch with the community's vision. It is the superintendent who develops the curriculum and the staff and is responsible for the day-to-day operations.
