• Q: How old must a student be to enroll in Tarrant City Schools? 
    A: We require students to be 5 years old on or before September 1 of the current school year to enter kindergarten. To enter first grade, a child must be 6 years old on or before December 31.

    Q: How many schools does Tarrant City Schools have?
    A: TCS has 3 schools. Tarrant Elementary School (TES) consists of Pre-K - 2nd grade. Tarrant Intermediate School (TIS) consists of 3rd grade - 6th grade. Tarrant High School (THS) consists of 7th grade - 12th grade. 

    Q:If I move outside of Tarrant, can my child remain in Tarrant City Schools?
    A: No, you will need to enroll your child at the school you are now zoned for. 

    Q: Does Tarrant City Schools provide transportation? 
    A: For grades Kindergarten-6th grade, students that live within a 2-mile radius from their assigned school are not eligible to ride the bus. 

    Q: Does Tarrant City Schools have a preschool program?
    A: Tarrant Elementary School conducts the Alabama First Class Pre-K Program.  Pre-K students must be 4 years old before September 1 to start school. There is a lottery system to enroll in Pre-K. Please contact TES at 205-841-7541 for more details. 

    Q: I am living with my parents, friend or relative. I do not have a lease or deed in my name. What do I do?

    Q: Does Tarrant City Schools have a virtual school option?
    A: No, visit the Alabama Department of Education's site to find a virtual school program. 

    Q: What is the Twilight Program?
    A: It is a hybrid school environment. It is a program that takes place in the afternoon/evening where students attend classes and work through an online program. The Twilight Program is only available for 10th grade students and higher. There is an application program. For an application, please contact THS at 205-849-0172.

    Q: My child's primary residence (or physical custody) is with my ex-wife/husband or another family member. Can I enroll him/her?
    A: No, TCS policy limits enrollment to only Tarrant residents who have custody of a child.

    Q: What type of schedule does Tarrant High School run?
    A: THS has 7 class periods a day.

    Q: How do I address concerns I have with my child's school? 
    A: Please share all concerns with the school administrators. School administrators welcome emails, phone calls and scheduled conferences with parents/guardians. Please allow time for our school administrators to investigate and/or address your concern. If concerns are not resolved, please contact Holly Laney, Director of Student Services, at 205-849-3700. 

    Q: What do I do if my child takes medicine?

    Q: When and where are board meetings held? 
    A: Regular meetings and work sessions of the School Board of School are held monthly. For a meeting schedule or more information, click here. Meetings are typically held at the TCS’ district office at 1318 Alabama Street Tarrant, AL 35217.
