Superintendent's Message

Dr. Mize, Superintendent

Shelly Mize

Tarrant City Schools is a system rich in history and tradition.  The city of Tarrant formed their own school system in 1930, appointing Mr. W. A. Parker the first superintendent of our school system, but also held the longest tenure as a superintendent for Tarrant City Schools (1930-1953).  During Mr. Parker's tenure as superintendent, the school system underwent many changes including the acquisition of Tarrant High School (formerly Jefferson County High School) in 1948.  The community and school system have changed in many ways since that time.  However, the underlying philosophy has always been to provide our students the best education possible.

I am humbled and privileged to be the 11th superintendent of this great school system.  I daily feel the awesome weight and responsibility of this position.  I am committed to providing our students with a high-quality education and equipping them with skills to be successful in college and/or a career.  I appreciate the opportunity to continue the legacy that my 10 predecessors started.  I know that with continued hard work and commitment to excellence, we can make a positive difference in the lives of our children.  By working together, we can and will ensure that our students have a bright future.
