Mr. Gabriel Colvert

WELCOME TO MUSIC!

Hello, all! My name is Gabriel Colvert. I am the music teacher and band director for Tarrant Elementary School and Tarrant Intermediate School (you may also see me helping Mr. Phillips out at the high school). I am so excited to be starting my teaching career here with Tarrant City Schools!

I discovered my love of music during middle school when I randomly signed up for band and picked up a clarinet. After switching that out for a trumpet, I stayed in band all throughout high school at Corner High School (Class of 2014) and ultimately decided to pursue a career in music. I attended Jacksonville State University where I took advantage of every opportunity to perform. I was a member of the JSU Marching Southerners (trumpet, mellophone, soloist), principal trumpet player for the JSU Community Orchestra, flugelhorn player for the JSU Jazz program, and a member of the A Capella choir and JSU Encore! show choir. I also had the opportunity of a lifetime to perform with Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps for the 2017 competitive season as a trumpet player. After graduation, I was a substitute teacher for Calhoun County Schools (AL), then worked as a part-time music instructor for Jefferson County Schools (AL) for two years before coming to Tarrant.

During my spare time, I am usually spending time with my dog, Percy, either going for a run or a hike. I also enjoy hanging out with my friends and doing all the great and fun activities that Birmingham has to offer, like attending an Alabama Symphony Orchestra concert or going to cheer on the Birmingham Barons at Regions Field just to name a few.

I am beyond thrilled to be here with you. Feel free to call or text me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
