Welcome to Tarrant Elementary School. My name is Suhai Colon Douglas and I am excited to serve as the assistant principal at Tarrant Elementary. I am a veteran of the US Army and have 14 years of experience as an educator. I began my career in education with the DODEA as a special education paraprofessional for children with Autism. Then, worked for Birmingham City Schools as a fourth-grade teacher for 7 years.

 I received my bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix and have received a master's in elementary education and another in organizational leadership with Grand Canyon University.  I received my elementary specialist degree in instructional leadership from the University of West Alabama. I have also been the recipient of the Janice Riley Educator Scholarship, the Bertram Perry Award for education leadership, and the Honoring Our Heroes award by the Greater Birmingham Optimist Club.

I am originally from New York but currently reside in St. Clair County with my husband Neon. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my son Diego and my daughter Bianka.

I am blessed to be working with the wonderful children at Tarrant Elementary. I look forward to building positive and productive relationships with our parents and community.
