• Every Day Counts !!!

    Student Success Begins with Attendance

The Tarrant City School System recognizes the positive impact that regular school attendance has on student achievement.  As parents/guardians, you play a key role in helping your children achieve their goals.

When students are not in class they miss important information and instruction.  Quality education requires regular and continuous instruction.  For our students to experience continued improvement, we need to have all the students in school EVERY DAY and ready to learn.  Regular attendance benefits the student, the class, the school and the community.

    • Attending school every day is one of the most powerful tools for student success.
    • Students need parental support to help them develop the habit of regular school attendance.

Because regular attendance is vital to academic success, school or district staff will contact parents by phone, letter, and/or home visits to assist in encouraging regular consistent student attendance.   All compulsory education laws will be followed.

Alabama State Law 16-28-3, Code of Alabama, 1975 requires all children between the ages of six and sixteen to attend school regularly.  Provided, however, a guardian may withdraw the child prior to the current compulsory attendance age.  Section 16-28-3, Code of Alabama, 1975.  Alabama State Law states that each child enrolls in a public school, whether the child is required by law to enroll, is subject to the school attendance and truancy laws of the state.  Parents or guardians having control over school-age children are responsible for their children’s regular attendance and proper conduct.  Failure to comply with the Compulsory School Attendance Law within (3) days after the date requires the Attendance Officer to file a complaint in the Jefferson County Family Court.
